Here is a GIF I created frame by frame in photo shop of a Yoshi from Super Mario World going Super Saiyan (When a character from the show ‘Dragon Ball Z’ powers up lots of energy, their hair extends and turns yellow while lighting and auras surround them).
Trick is to google image lighting.png and Aura.png and you will be able to create similar effect.
To top it off, here is a high quality image of a Yoshi going Super Saiyan once again.
My experience with photoshop is fun hobby only. You cut images, do lots of layering and filtering. And combine images from google until it comes out looking nice. Changing color thresholds and doing lots of color replaces also helps blend. I am the opposite of an artist.
